Curbside pick up FAQs

What is curbside pick up?

Curbside pick up is a way for the Library to lend books and other items to the public in a safe way during a public health emergency. Customers are able to place holds on Library materials from home. After you place a hold, Library staff will contact you to arrange for you to pick up the items. Items will be available for pick up outside the Library at your scheduled time. After placing your holds, please allow a few business days for the Library to contact you to schedule an appointment as pick up times are limited.

What is the Library doing to protect me from COVID-19?

All items returned in our drop box are isolated for 72 hours before being available to borrow. Staff will record the date your items were packed for pick up on your check out slip, if you wish to isolate items before use. All staff are required to follow increased sanitation procedures prior to handling library materials.

As well, our staff follow guidelines provided by the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark Health Unit before coming into the Library each day and while they are working in the Library to reduce the risk and stop the spread of COVID-19.

Please contact our CEO (ceo@brockvillelibrary.ca or 613-342-3936 ext.6427) if you want to know more.

What can I request for curbside pick up?

All library items, except for select items from our Experience, reference and local history collections can be borrowed. Please visit our Online Catalogue to select your items.

What if I miss my pick up time?

What if I'm unable to leave my home or don't have the ability to get to the Library?

With your permission, we will give your library pick up items to someone else for them to deliver for you.
OR
We have partnered with the Volunteer Centre’s COVID-19 Volunteer Response Team to provide home delivery of Library items.

When we call you to arrange a pickup time, please let us know if you will be sending someone else to pick up your items or if you wish to make use of the COVID-19 Volunteer Response Team.
Library employees may not give out your ordered items to anyone else if you haven’t given us specific direction.

Are there limits on the number of items I can borrow?

Yes, we have placed limits on the number of items people can borrow at one time. Please visit our Get a Library Card page and open the Borrowing Library Materials drop down list for the number of items each card holder can borrow.

Can I renew curbside pick up items?

No, not at this time.
Thank you for your patience while we fine-tune this new service.

When will items be due?

All items are due four (4) weeks from when we contact you to arrange pick up. We will include a due date slip in your curbside pick up bag. At this time, we are not allowing items to be renewed past their 4 week loan period.

When will the Library reopen to the public?

The Library does not currently have a date for when it is expected to reopen to the public. The Government of Ontario has announced that libraries may begin curbside service. The Library will only reopen when the Ontario Government permits and the Library Board determines that it is safe for the public and staff to do so.
